Spiritual Practices Challenge

Our hope for this year is that we might experience more of God and His hope, love, peace and joy. God is always with us, but we experience Him when we slow down and pay loving attention to Him. For the last 2,000 years, Christians have done that through spiritual practices. Spiritual practices are activities and habits that help to remove distraction and guide us in attentiveness. They are gifts from God, created to draw us to him.

We invite you to take up our Spiritual Practices Challenge. We’ve selected six different practices for you to try out, representing six different categories of spiritual practice: worship, openness to God, relinquishing the false self, hearing God’s word, incarnating the love of Christ and prayer.

Some may come easily , celebrate these and enjoy them. Some may not come so naturally , acknowledge that and see it as an opportunity for learning and growth. We’ll send out a new practice once a fortnight. Each fortnight read the description, and follow the steps outlined, trying the practice three or four times over the two weeks. Once you’ve finished, prayerfully fill out the reflection questions to explore how you encountered God through this practice.

God is already with you. You do not need to work your way up to him. However, it may be that through these practices, God is inviting you to turn your attention to Him, so that you might receive what He has for you.

If you have any questions or stories you would like to share, I’d love to hear from you.
